TweetSweep — bulk delete for X

Delete Tweets Documenting Unhealthy Habits or Behaviors You've Moved Past

Posts from a period you have come through are still public. How to clear them, in sessions, without reading every one of them.

On the left, a cluttered stack of social post cards topples beside an overflowing wastebasket; on the right, a neat stack of social post cards sits beside the same wastebasket now empty and closed.

Substance Use and Recovery

Find your profile on X, click More then Your data and enable date filter. Put in your start date as when you began posting about substance use and your end date as when you entered recovery. TweetSweep will scan just that range. You can delete all your tweets during the time range you choose in a single scan. You do not need to ping a public diary throughout your addiction or experimentation efforts. Anyone who sees your profile, from employers to your potential new friends, can read those tweets with no context. Discard the archive and don´t share your recovery.

For X, these requests are 50 every 15 minutes per user using the deletion API. Reading a post costs one credit, and so does deleting a sticky postwhich means a full timeline sync is capped at X's 3,200-post limit. You run the tool multiple times to get reach older content (if you have more than 3,200 tweets). If, like most participants who have a few hundred drug- or alcohol-related tweets, one session through them takes less than 30 minutes. You are not doing away with the experience. You are refraining from keeping it permanently affixed onto a public profile that outlives the battle.

Unhealthy Relationships and Codependency

Use the date filter in TweetSweep to input how many months you spent in a toxic relationship (or codependent friendship) Give it an end date which is the month you quit. The tool filters out any tweet relating to arguments, dysfunctional or angrily emotional exchanges, or complaints about the partner from that time. These tweets incorrectly establish a record of the events in the public domain. A person seeing your profile sees only the argument — not the years of a healthy relationship before, or after. By deleting them, one is getting rid of permanent proof of a fleeting dynamic.

For example X caps you at 3,200 tweets which are available in every timeline when synchronising. Run it after the first scan if your relationship lasted more than a year and you tweeted about it extensively that time period, ridding yourself of any tweets caught by the initial pass. And the second scan is usually completed in ten minutes. You do not have to keep an open diary of what you are doing with a person who no longer speaks to you. Your history shouldn't get an honorary permanent residence on your profile. Sure delete those tweets, let your present connections define you.

Mental Health Issues and Dark Times

Leverage TweetSweep to select tweets from the months or even years when you were depressed, anxious, or suicidal. Choose the date range that includes the full length of the crisis and do the deletion. When you are healed or more in a better place then these tweets hurt. They falsify your mental status to anyone seeing your profile. Having your history of having struggled mentally so severely out there publicly, makes the narrative that is written on who you now are. Remove it, for the sake of your own emotional safety.

With a max of 50 requests each 15 minutes, this delete method enables to delete few hundreds tweets in the course of an hour. When your dark day resulted in many thousands of tweets, divide the work into a series of sessions. Work through the range session by session until the whole of it is done. You are not denying that struggle occurred. You are deciding to only document your recovery in the moment rather than everything permanently filed away for all of eternity on the internet. Distance from those reminders helps you to keep on healing.

Self-Harm and Eating Disorders

Configure TweetSweep to delete all tweets mentioning self-harm, disordered eating and various other harmful activities. Make sure you do not have any tweet on these topics in your profile When you see them they trigger you better? They can promote toxic behavior in the people who see your tweets. This could lead employers, friends or family to misinterpret your current mental status and well-being. A single scan creates mass invisibility. No need to archive your darkest days for the web.

The timeline semaphore of X stops at a total of 3,200 tweets, and not specific to this category, as we said. If your total tweet tally is less than 3,200 tweets the cleanup is completed in one session. If you have more tweets, remove the oldest ones first — those are further from your recovery date. The tool deletes them starting from the oldest first. With every deletion, the reminder of the behavior in public diminishes. You have moved past it. Your record should reflect this, not a permanent gallery of your lowest points.

Unhealthy Behaviors and Patterns

Launch TweetSweep, choose a timeframe during which you pulled an all-nighter on junk food and bad work but never quite clicked with anyone in a codependent aerobic. These tweets chronicle the changes you have made. If you keep them public, it gives away that you still do. Get rid of every tweet about the old sleep schedule, the bad diet, the miserable job, and the toxic friendship. It bulk-deletes all of them. By un-declaring it, you are shutting the door on that chapter, and taking away the fact that it ever happened altogether.

Do your deletion in tranches to avoid X's limit which is 50 requests every 15 mins. If you have hundreds of tweets about the toxic pattern, let it run for 15 minutes and use it again. Each pass clears a portion. You are not desecrating the memory of the struggle. You are opting not to make it available publicly. The healing process requires some space from the reminders of pain. To unpin the past, delete these tweets; this creates psychological distance and allows you to move past them.

Protecting Your Identity After Recovery

By erasing those tweets from the dark periods, you protect your identity as one who has evolved and moved on. The version of you that was fighting for a life has left the pages of your profile. It shows who you are now. After removing the ranges you want to delete, do a final sweep of your entire timeline with TweetSweep.
