How to Advanced Twitter Search Videos on X.com
Filtering search down to video, the operators that narrow it further, and how to find a clip you only half remember.
Media filter operators
Filter:videos — Add filter:videos to any query in the X.com search box. The results then include only posts that have a video player. No media DROP in the basic box, hence operator as your save method will be where you cut text and stills out. Keywords first, operator next, enter. The results page is now a feed of relevant video posts. filter:native_video is more restrictive, discarding clips hosted on YouTube or elsewhere and retaining only files uploaded to X, while filter:media returns imagery and video together as a mixed list.
When you open Search, the operators fill in at the same search field on x.com. Use force and stack them with words, quotes and other filters in one long string. A search with protest filter:videos retrieves posts that are general (with images or links) in video format with that word. When you add filter:native_video to your video filter, this will remove embeds instead of the opposite. No space after colon (Only spaces before in a sentence. Capitalization does not matter. If you see photos in your feed, you either used filter:media or you didn't include the operator. After you edit the box, refresh. This feature allows saving as in saving searches, which keeps the operators when you open a saved search from the Menus.
Advanced search form
The form lives at x.com/search-advanced. It provides fields for all of these words, this specific phrase, none of these words, these hashtags, from these accounts, to these accounts, mention these accounts, date ranges and engagement minimums like likes etc. Fill in the fields required and submit. X builds a query string and throw you at the search result page with that string already in the box. Media Filters Are Not Exposed By Form Once the results load, click on the search box, add filter:videos or filter:native_video and re-run the search.
Those date fields on that form require a from date and an until date. For when you remember the week a clip went up but not any of the text in its caption. Engagement fields means I can set a minimum for how few likes, replies, or reposts they should have so posts that reach low amounts of people disappear. Those are still constraints you have once you add the video operator after. In the box, type filter:native_video instead of filter:videos only for native uploads. If you will use the constructed query again, bookmark it The media operator will not be remembered on subsequent visits to the form.
Account and engagement filters
from:handle will restrict results to before, since one account. You can then take that and pair it with a video operator to return the video posts belong to that account. Example: from:nasa filter:native_video. Nasa => Before using, replace nasa with the handle you care about (without @ sign) The to:handle is filtered for tweets sent @ that account including video. So, you set min_faves:100 to hide posts that were under 100 likes — clips that went nowhere. Feel free to increase the number and decrease it. Just like min_retweets:50 and min_replies:10 Stack them behind the handle and the media operator into a single search string.
For example, a string like from:handle filter:videos min_faves:100 Then, run from in the search box on the results page. Filter:videos filter only the video posts posted by the account if it also mentions images. Use filter:native_video when you prefer uploads over quote-tweeted YouTube cards. Quoted phrases still work here, for example: from:handle "launch product" filter:videos. Date operators since:2023-01-01 until:2023-12-31 can be on the same line if you know the window already. Keep the handle exact. Typos return an empty feed with no error on the page.
Own uploaded videos
Need to find your videos using:from:yourhandle filter:native_video And replace yourhandle with the name on your profile, no @ In the search results page it indicates posts from when you uploaded a file to X: live broadcasts that were saved, clips of reactions and camera rolls all appear too if they were native uploads. Embedded videos from other sites will not continue. Scroll the feed. Open a post to play it. Running this query is the sure-fired method of auditing what you post to the platform without clicking through eons of a profile timeline.
Your profile Media tab under header of your profile page Mix the images and video in one grid. It also only hides items after a certain point, so it's not a complete inventory. The native_video operator in search extends beyond that tab. Text search wouldn't catch (and this handle-plus-filter query will still surface) a clip with no useful caption. Sort is recency. A common tactic is to not have a duration filter in your box. If necessary check lengths and audio on each result, or determine if the recording should remain public.
Archive media download
Click here to request your archive from X settings for the full list. Go to Settings and privacy → Your account → Download an archive of your data. Once confirmed, wait for an email. The download is a zip. It stores all the media files you uploaded as physical files in an accessible directories stored exactly where you can find it on your local hard drive. Videos sit alongside images. Filenames are not the captions. Play them in any local player. This perspective is constrained by what either Live Search or the Media tab are willing to display on their site.
Go 1-Level deeper: Archive tweets by matching back a local file to the live post js or their CSV (if you have one in your export) and search for that post id on X. The files themselves are not deleteable. Deleting a hosting post is the same thing as deleting any video from the platform. You can keep the zip if offline copy is required prior to cleanup. Don't put the archive on some random site. This ensures you can choose posts by date without having to cherry-pick each clip from the archive you already downloaded, as TweetSweep reads the same thing.
Video history cleanup
Video is the part of a history that people want erased most, but have the hardest time finding as it does not appear in text search. There are live streams, reaction clips and videos filmed in contexts that no longer exist sitting there for life. If you delete the post, the video itself goes too. No separate media-only delete on the post. Open the caret menu on a single post, and select Delete. That removes one clip. Deleting one by one on the search results page is clunky and easy to give up if you have years worth of uploads.

You do not change tools to do clip work. Utilise search, when you need to find one video that you want to save, or if you want to look for a public upload by another account. The files in your local zip are a private copy that you keep, and they will not show up on your X profile or in search once those posts are gone.
